I'm SO Lucky!

My birthday was on Saturday, and Sherri got us tickets to see Louis C.K. in Sacramento! He is hilarious. If you don't watch his show, Lucky Louie, you should check it out. This show is the funniest sit com I've ever seen, and it's on HBO so it is pretty raunchy. I can't wait to see him live, which I can predict will be even more raw than the tv show. The stuff that is talked about on this show is just like real life, and it is so funny it hurts! Watch this show!

The Honeymoon

The first week of school has gone by without a hitch, and the new group I have to work with seem pretty reasonable so far. It is the honeymoon, though, and I know that there will be some bumps in the road ahead. The boys are getting into the groove of waking up and are both doing very well, too. I have come home very tired each day and fell asleep on the couch a couple times, and this isn't unusual for the first week, but having morning yard duty hasn't helped any either. The traditional first day sore throat was present, but the second day was better. I managed to go for a ride this afternoon in the 92 degree weather. I am going to try to continue this blog as a kind of a journal, realizing that nobody will probably read it but me, but that is fine. Maybe my mom will read it. I haven't kept any kind of a journal in years, and since I rarely write emails or call people to talk about my life, this may serve those two purposes. At least I will try not to abandon this project as so many of the bloggers I read seem to have done. Maybe I will bail, who knows. I really just like looking for music on these things. I found some good Albert Collins today here. My dad has this record called Ice Pickin and I really like it. Well maybe if I do something interesting, I'll write about it later. See ya!

Summer's Almost Gone

Today was my first day to go back to my classroom after a short summer vacation. I listened to Among Schoolchildren by Tracy Kidder on audiobook while I rearranged the furniture and hooked up the computers again. It seemed like the calm before the storm in a way; the students will be back on Monday the 14th. Saul is starting kindergarten this year, and he is pretty excited. I'm just trying to keep a stiff upper lip.

The S T P

On July 15 and 16, my uncle and I did the Seattle to Portland ride. It was really fun. There were some inspirational characters doing it. I saw a triple amputee pedaling a recumbant bike with one tree trunk arm, a paraplegic guy doing it with both arms, a guy in a viking helmet doing it on a grownup sized big wheel, another guy on a unicycle, and lots of parents and kids on tandems. It was a beautiful trip and the weather was fine. After the first day of pedaling " about a hunerd miles," we went to a coffee shop in Chehalis called the Matrix to see my friend Brian Kenney Fresno perform on his Warr guitar. He was a crackup! We didn't get to see his whole gig though 'cause we had to ride about a hunerd miles the next day. On day two, my uncle had a mechanical problem when his spoke broke on his back wheel. We had to backtrack to the last pit stop where Scott, a great bike mechanic from Sumner, fixed his wheel and trued it perfectly in about 15 minutes! I took my wheels to him after the ride and told him about how the incompetant dude at Performance bikes in Stockton claimed that my rear wheel was "severely damaged," and that he couldn't fix it and charged $15 for the advice to buy a new one. The guy from Sumner fixed it so it was dead straight! Needless to say I won't be going to Performance for any maintenance anymore. So, the STP was a kick and I will probably do it again in the future.

Willowfarm

Hi people! I'm going to be talking about music mostly, but who knows what other subjects I may address here. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, eh? Check it out. Freaky Z
